I've heard that expert service providers are too expensive.  Is this true?

Attorneys who specialize in complex litigation such as IP realize that they are charged with protecting their client's most valuable assets, which are their ideas and inventions.  While attorneys are expected to manage their client's expenses they cannot afford to retain an expert based solely on cost alone.  With a database of over 10,000 experts we are able to competitively price our experts according to their experience and credentials compared to other individuals with similar qualifications.

All of our referrals are provided at no cost or obligation to our clients.  Our clients have the opportunity to review our experts qualifications and fee schedule and are provided with the opportunity to interview the expert without incurring any charges.

How do you handle the issue of confidentiality?

We respect the concept of attorney client privilege.  While we are not bound to the same rules of ethics as attorneys, we are willing to execute any necessary confidentiality agreements in order to assuage a clients fear of disclosing too much information.

We are currently working with a number of the largest IP firms in the nation and have done repeat business with many of them.  We are willing to provide numerous references that will attest to this fact.  This is a tribute to level of respect we have for our clients and a sign of trust that has been developed over the years.

Why are expert service providers so intrusive?

We are a business and as such we will of course follow up on all potential leads.  However, having been in this business for over 25 years we understand that expert selection is just one part of litigation.  We can follow up in any manner and at intervals our clients choose be it by telephone, FAX, email or regular mail.

Why can't we pay the expert directly?

Like any commercial entity we are in business to make money and stay in business.  Managing gross receivables helps ensure that we will be able to provide our clients with the services the require for years to come.  By working as an agent for the expert we can ensure that our experts are providing our clients with the level of service they require.

Aren't experts retained through an agency nothing more than a hired gun?

Expert witnesses are a necessary part of litigation.  Our experts are the leaders within their respective fields of endeavor.  Drawn from academia and industry.  We do not refer experts whose sole source of income is derived from litigation support.

When an expert is retained, that expert is retained directly by the firm.  We have positioned ourselves to be an extension of our clients firm.  By outsourcing the task of searching for an expert, researching their qualifications and gathering the necessary information required to select the right person or persons for their case we are able to save our clients time and money.  Our clients routinely tell us that they are able to better utilize their staff so that they can focus on what they do best.

How much information do you need in order to get started?

We are willing to base our search and provide expert referrals with as much or as little information as our clients provide.  Obviously with information such as patent numbers, adverse parties, etc. our initial response will be that much better.

When contacting potential experts we will prescreen that expert for potential conflicts of interest based on the information provided by our clients.  Obviously it does no one any good to have the adverse parties expert proposed for a case that they are currently on.  We will not provide our experts with our clients name, phone number or email address until we receive express authorization from our clients to do so.

Our referrals are provided in a number of ways.  We will usually email our referrals with the expert's curriculum vitae and fee schedule attached as an Adobe PDF file if the need is immediate.  If time is not of the essence then we will compile a binder of potential candidates and forward this via FedEx to our client's location and provide them with the opportunity to disseminate the information at their convenience.  We can even arrange to hand deliver a binder and are willing to sit down face to face with our clients to discuss any number of experts past experience and credentials.

Unless informed otherwise we will have our client initiate contact with the potential expert.  Obviously, we will inform our experts of our clients initial interest so that there is no surprise when they do contact them but in this way our clients can perform their own conflict and reference checks.
